Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, has broad roads and narrow winding lanes all thrown together and which is a perfect setting for a pub-crawl. Melbourne has everything from live music venues, to underground dance dens, to relaxed pubs, and nightclubs. Most people feel that Melbourne is busy partying all the time!
Melbourne people are some of the most relaxed and sacked out people in Australia. They are extremely hospitable and are prone to inviting total strangers to their “dos” at home! Melbourne has more than a 1000 bars, pubs, and nightclubs put together. The timings of these establishments vary, with some shutting down at midnight, others at 2 am, and some others remaining open till 4 or 6 am. Melbourne bars are trendy, though there are plenty of independent and traditional bars available.
Melbourne can be broadly divided into two areas, one the City Centre, and two, the outskirts of the city. The City centre has around 60 pubs, 50 clubs, and more than 150 bars and thus caters to every possible taste. The pubs and bars are located close to each other, not more than a fifteen-minute walk between two of them, and therefore pub crawling is definitely an option. Some of the well known pubs are the Mitre Tavern, The Elephant and the Wheelbarrow, and the Grosvenor. Bridie O Reilly’s is a very popular pub, which serves excellent food, and has a huge variety of beers for sale. It is not really crowded most of the time, and also has a live band, which plays on most days, and is the perfect place to catch up with friends over a pint of the house brew!
Pugg Mahone’s and the Charles Dickens Tavern are two other popular bars.
Other popular joints are:
