Sydney Pub Guide

Find a pub in Sydney!

Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales (NSW), can be divided into various areas where pubs can be found.  Most of the pubs and bars are located in City South and City North, along with other areas like Darlinghurst, Inner West, Newtown and South West.  Some of the popular places are Bar Europa, Top Bambu, and Cargo.  Most of these bars and pubs close either at midnight or are open till 3 am, but the Tank Nightclub located at Bridgelane is open all night till 6 am.  Some of the popular nightclubs are Arq, Candy’s Apartment, and Cargo.  Minus 5 degrees is another cool pub, which is completely made out of ice and you can stay inside for not more than 30 minutes, as it is quite cold, in spite of the warm clothing given to you at the pub entrance!

Sydney has five main nightlife areas where pubs, bars and clubs can be found.
They are:

  • Cockle Bay
  • The Rocks
  • King’s Cross
  • Victoria Street
  • Bondi Beach

Home is one of the most famous nightclubs in Sydney.  It is located in the Cockle Bay area.  Spread over five floors, Home has something for everybody.  It has a fabulous sound system with the DJ’s playing the latest mixes, and also has special drag queen nights, and also nights for people with alternative sexualities.

The Rocks has the famous Lord Nelson pub and the Hero of Waterloo pub.  These pubs are full of good cheer, local brew, and a large, noisy, but friendly crowd.  These two pubs are also chock a block with local history that is for the most part extremely colourful!  The Basement is a place that plays live music mostly from the sixties and seventies and also at times Jazz.

Bondi beach is the place to go pub-crawling what with fifty miles and more of golden coastline to give you that extra kick!  The Oaks, The Bondi Hotel, The Bondi Iceberg Club, and Billy the Pigs are some of the most popular joints around.

Sydney’s King’s Cross has mostly adult entertainment, what with strip bars, tattoo joints, and adult bookstores scattered in haphazard profusion.  The Palladium, the Underground Café, and DMC are some of the most popular clubs. The Bourbon and Beefsteak Bar, and the Piccadilly Hotel, are two trendy and popular bars in this area.  This area is open all night till dawn with most of the establishments doing brisk business.  The Paddo Inn, the Four in Hand, and the Royal are some of the good pubs in Victoria Street.
